SUSTAINABILITY
Goodwill Houston integrates sustainability into its core mission by extending
the life cycle of donated goods and reducing waste across the community.
Through resale and responsible recycling efforts, the organization diverts
millions of pounds of materials from landfills each year while generating
funding for job training and career pathway programs.

Goodwill Houston established a strategic partnership with CompuCycle
to align community impact with environmental stewardship, creating a
closed-loop approach to sustainability. By enabling residents to responsibly
donate and recycle electronics, the initiative not only diverts hazardous
e-waste from landfills but also extends the lifecycle of usable technology
to generate funding for workforce development programs. Materials that
cannot be resold are processed through CompuCycle’s certified recycling
systems, ensuring adherence to the highest environmental and data
security standards. This collaboration demonstrates how circular economy
principles can be operationalized at a local level—simultaneously reducing
environmental harm, promoting responsible consumption, and reinvesting
resources into career pathways that strengthen the community.
